Deaf Friends International is a non-profit , all-volunteer organization which began in 1992. We offer our services to deaf people around the world of all nationalities, races, and religions.
Our current projects:
Deaf Friends International Online Magazine
Our Online Magazine contains stories, poems, and art work submitted to us from our readers. A popular feature is our E-PAL section in which our readers can make new friends in their own country or in other countries. We also have articles about famous deaf persons or persons associated with the deaf.
Our magazine has two major goals. Our first goal is to share God's love by encouraging friendship among the deaf people of the world. Many times, deaf children and adults, especially those who do not live in an area with a large deaf population, feel isolated and lonely. We provide them a way to make new deaf friends through our E-PAL program.
The second goal is to encourage creativity in deaf students. For many deaf children, reading and writing are frustrating and consequently avoided. But we feel that everyone has something to say about his/her feelings, family, school, friends, etc. We want everyone to feel comfortable submitting their work to share with others no matter what his ability levels may be. We print all work in the students' own words with a minimum of editing. We also want students of all reading levels to be able to enjoy our magazine.
Thanks to the generosity of many wonderful volunteer translators, we are currently publishing in 15 languages.
